“Tales of the Galaxy” – A Star Wars Anthology Series [PITCH]

In October of 2022, Disney Plus released a 6-part anthology series set in the Star Wars universe: Tales of the Jedi. Animated in the same style as The Clone Wars [TCW], this spinoff predominantly develops the character arcs of Ahsoka Tano and Count Dooku, detailing pivotal moments in their lives.

We gather here today to make a simple pitch to Kathleen Kennedy and the general leadership of Disney Star Wars: we want to see more anthology-style stories focusing not just on the force-wielding Jedi, Sith, and Fallen – but rather on the galaxy as a whole. A “Tales of the Galaxy”, if you will.

Our rationale is just as simple: such a series is an opportunity to explore other periods for other characters that deserve more exploration. It also gives a chance to watch story arcs that were shelved upon TCW’s initial cancelation.

This is our quick “pitch list” for stories we’d love to see explored as either one-off or multi-part arcs over the course of our first season.

Dooku’s Formation of the Confederacy of Independent Systems [CIS]

Tales of the Jedi had three full episodes dedicated to Count Dooku’s gradual fall to the dark side. Here, we can concentrate on Dooku’s story for a potential second season after leaving the order. Now that he is no longer a Jedi, there is an opportunity to explore Dooku’s effectiveness as a politician as he transforms his personal disdain for the corrupt Galactic Republic into a full-fledged rebellion in just ten years.

From assuming his family title as count of Sereno to seeing him persuade disenfranchised planets to form a new galactic government. It would be a perfect continuation of his character from the first season.

The Tragedy of Darth Plagueis, “The Wise”

Even the Emperor once had a master.

We’ve written a series of articles in the past elaborating on how we believe a proper Darth Plagueis mini-series should be made. For the uninitiated, this fan-favorite tale follows the life and career of Palpatine’s Sith master, Darth Plagueis, as the pair set the galactic stage for the events of the prequel trilogy and the eventual Jedi purge.

However, for much cheaper than a fully-produced live-action series, one particular episode should be incorporated into our anthology series: the moment Plagueis inducts Sidious into the Sith.

Everything about this sequence, from seeing Palpatine as an intelligent yet somewhat spoiled young man to being manipulated to killing his entire family, is both horrifying and yet so insightful. It is a perfect origin story for the future emperor.

It wouldn’t be the first time Lucusfilm appropriated scenes from the books into this series. The finale episode focused on Ahsoka defending a village that’s loosely based on the Ahsoka novel written back in 2016.

Darth Maul: Son of Dathamir

One story arc that was unceremoniously axed as a result of TCW’s untimely cancelation. Before this, we last see Darth Maul defeated and captured by his master. This comic storyline was based on scripts initially intended for season 6 that haven’t been animated. This has understandably left a significant gap between season 5 and his final appearance in season 7.

It was only vaguely illuded what happened. This is an opportunity to see this comic storyline come to the screen as it was initially meant to be. It elaborates on many elements that were not given the opportunity to explore Maul’s connection to Dathomir, and his confrontation with Sidious and Dooku comes to a head.

Bo Katan and Satine Kryze – Sisters of Mandalore

One aspect that was introduced in season 5 was the revelation that Mandalorian Deathwatch soldier Bo Katan was the sister of the ruling Duchess Satine Kryze. It makes one wonder what happened to these sisters that caused them to split up.

Such a storyline warrants its own story arc, perhaps even its own season. A clash of ideologies between pacifism and traditional militarism and how it divided their family would make this a perfect deconstruction of the Mandalorian ethos.

Young Boba Fett vs Cade Bane

Another arc that was cut from the series was a story focusing on Cade Bane on a bounty job with a young Boba Fett. There have been fully recorded lines and even unfinished footage released. One of them is a final dual between bane and boba where both combatants are hit, but both miraculously survive.

Given that their rivalry has been hinted at heavily in the book of Boba Fett’s show, it’s time to see where that helmet dent came from.

Conclusion

These are among a few ideas that Lucas’ animation can pursue. Now that Tales of the Jedi is getting a second season, and the Bad Batch confirms that their upcoming 3rd season to be their last, there is more opportunity for these stories to be told now than ever.
